Aug03 Red Duct Tape Day

Okay so the real name is “Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity”. Either way, I think it’s stupid. I’m all for expression of what you think is right and all, but the whole pro-life thing is one I can’t apply it to as readily. If you think we should build this structure one way and I think it should be done differently, we should discuss it and determine who is right.

These Pro-Life groups always angered me mostly because they strive to take away another’s rights. I think a woman should have the choice to do whatever she thinks is best with her body. If you don’t agree with abortion (or gay marriage) don’t have one. It’s that simple. If your holy book says no, you don’t have to have one. That’s your choice. All I ask is that others be allowed to make a choice as well. To preserve everybody’s liberty the only real option is to keep abortion legal.

Here’s a small quotation from their website:

Since January 22, 1973 over 50,000,000 babies have had their voices silenced through surgical abortion in this nation alone.

Over 4,000 children have their lives taken each day in the name of choice.

Over 4,000 women are emotionally damaged every day.

My first objection is their terminology. An embryo is not a baby for Christ’s sake. They aren’t children either. It is a lump of cells that has the potential to become a human. I didn’t have a chance to verify their numbers, but I’m going to assume they are valid. So what if there have been a large number of abortions in the last nearly 40 years? Are you certain those parents would have the capacity to raise these children? What about pregnancy complications? It really doesn’t explain the various reasons for abortion. The emotionally damaged women one really strikes me. Certainly an abortion would provoke some form of response, but so would carrying the baby of your rapist to birth. Am I right?

Nobody should be able to force you to do something in regards to your own body. The woman down the lane getting an abortion does not hurt you one damn bit. I’m not saying this post encompasses the full gamut of reasons behind an abortion, but I hope it makes sense. I also thought it would be prudent to mention that this campaign is being organized by Stand True, a Christ based pro-life organization. The reason for separation between Church and State is shown here. People are going to disagree on what is morally right, but so long as you aren’t harming somebody else I say do whatever the fuck you want. If you can live with it, so can I.

Nov23 Don’t Give These Fuckers Your Money!

Many people see the people out soliciting donations for the SalvationArmy as a good thing. Yes charity is good, but you may be curious as to what you are supporting. I find it best to let them tell you. Here is there Position Statement on some key things:

Abortion:

The Salvation Army deplores society’s ready acceptance of abortion, which reflects insufficient concern for vulnerable persons, including the unborn. (Psalms 82:3-4)

They make it seem like abortion is an easy choice. I highly doubt it is a decision made lightly and easily. That does not change my belief that people should have the right to have one. If you are opposed to abortions, you do not have to have one. It’s that simple.

Euthanasia:

Assisted suicide is defined as directly helping or encouraging someone to end his/her own life. Therefore, The Salvation Army believes that euthanasia and assisted suicide undermine human dignity and are morally wrong regardless of age or disability.

God would rather you suffer here than pass on into His Kingdom I guess.

Homosexuality:

Scripture forbids sexual intimacy between members of the same sex. The Salvation Army believes, therefore, that Christians whose sexual orientation is primarily or exclusively same-sex are called upon to embrace celibacy as a way of life. There is no scriptural support for same-sex unions as equal to, or as an alternative to, heterosexual marriage.

Likewise, there is no scriptural support for demeaning or mistreating anyone for reason of his or her sexual orientation. The Salvation Army opposes any such abuse.

At least they don’t condone abuse, but they still are not totally accepting…

Suicide:

Taking one’s own life is a denial of life’s value, a denial of hope and of the power of God to sustain and bring people through difficult and trying times (2 Corinthians 12:8-10). Suicide is never an acceptable option; we deplore those messages in secular culture that glamorize and promote self-destruction.

Ah it’s the secularist’s fault. Sounds about right…

The Salvation Army is a private organization, so they can do whatever the hell they want. That is 100% a OK with me. I just think people should know what their money is supporting. It has that image of taking people in and helping them, but I could not in good conscience give them any money knowing their stance on some of these things. Why not seek out some secular charities in your area?

Jul31 Obama Talks Sense About Religion

In this video we can clearly see what a level headed and intelligent man President Obama is. Now I have been a longtime supporter of him, but I think even John McCain fans and such can agree this is an intelligent speech. He recognizes fully even so called non-believers like myself have just as much a right as anybody for their opinions. He said if he wanted abortion banned because of his religion he would have to provide a substantial reason that applies to people from all walks of life. That’s why I support abortion, if you don’t want one don’t have one. Same as gay marriage. This must be what it feels like to have an intellectual run the country. Then again anythings an improvement over Bush….

Jul03 Catholic Church says Rape is better than abortion.

Today while stumbling along the internets I ran along an article that just seemed incredibly insane. A nine year old girl was given an abortion after her stepfather impregnated her. In Brazil, abortion is illegal so a team of doctors performed it for her. Here is the quote:
“When told about the incident, Archbishop Don Jose Cardoso Sobrinho of Recife excommunicated the doctor, the child’s mother, and the medical team involved in the procedure. The abusive stepfather was not excommunicated because, according to Sobrinho, “A graver act than rape is abortion, to eliminate an innocent life.”
(Full article at: http://tinyurl.com/baltml)
There’s no way I am the only one who doesn’t see this as crazy right? The rape might be bad, but the abortion is unforgivable. What the fuck? So its okay for men to rape young girls, but if the daughter doesnt want to carry the burden of the child and probably would die in the birth of and have no way to provide care for said child she is going straight to hell. This is why I hate religion, this dumbass stuff is a disgrace to everything about being human. How can ANYONE ignore the fact that she was raped? And the lives for those children couldn’t have been good, born into poverty, and a constant reminder of the pain and hardship. Maybe they could have been put up for adoption but I have no idea what the adoption policy is in the country of Brazil.
“Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, head of the Catholic Church’s Congregation for Bishops, said that the case was sad, but that “the real problem is that the twins conceived were two innocent persons, who had the right to live and could not be eliminated.”
I support abortion but even if I didnt this is one situation where I would make an exception.
Absolutely insane. So is the way of the religious.
