As an atheist I approve of what you are doing here, but I see that you have "blogging unrestricted by god" at the top of you page.. It seems to me that your blog is fundamentally a slave to the idea of god, and therefore restricted by the idea of god. It seems to me that many atheists give too much power to the idea of god, and they let it control them. Atheist is a dirty word, it defines us with the very concept of that which we see no need for.. Please don't take this disrespectfully, I just think that people who don't believe in god could better spend their time by living on their own terms instead of waging war against something THEY insist doesn't exist.
  • Awesome blog you have here, will be keeping up with it if I can.

Keep doing what your doing, Us Atheists need all the help we can get.

I mean, I'm all for you but I was just wondering, why are you spending your life trying to prove god doesn't exist? This is so much effort but really? What are you proving? Christians won't stop beleiving. Nothing you can ever say will change their mind if they truly are Christians. Trust me. They just don't change. Are you trying to prove this to me? I've made up my mind and nothing you say makes me agree more...just saying. It all just seems a pointless waste to me. Sorry, I'm really not trying to hate but I really am interested in the why.

No one here is trying to prove or disprove anything or make anyone change their beliefs. Its all a matter of expressing thought. Why is it that so many things having to do with religion are advertised everywhere yet when something that pertains to atheism or whatever suddenly it becomes an argument like this? We're curious creatures by nature so whats wrong with things like this being discussed?

Emily, I think that the theists do hope to convert atheists. If they did not, it would not be following the church's orders to convert non-believers. Religions demand this of their followers to increase their adherents and therefore their revenues.

Religions also do not want non-believers (AKA "godless heathens") to speak out because we often ask questions that they cannot answer. Free speech is fatal to any religion and must always be discouraged. Only "right-thinking" and "correct speech" can be permitted. Sound like Orwell's "1984"?

That's what's wrong with these things being discussed. It affects the revenues of religion.

I think this blog and others like it are important because in our evolutionary process we are still a young species and need to work on improving humanity by studying and understanding things about the universe. Religion is an old idea, like a flat earth and geocentric-ism, that we should be smart enough to drop because it can be very close minded and harmful to our long-term growth. I'm not saying it's all bad, but it promotes unhealthy thinking like blind faith and lacks a need for evidence. We shouldn't have to prove that a god or gods don't exist, organized religion should have to prove that they DO exist. If I said, "there IS NOT a teapot orbiting mars," everyone would just accept it. If I said, "there IS a teapot orbiting mars," everyone would say "prove it." All in all the theory for a god is very poorly supported by actual facts and data when compared to many other theories that hold up under scientific examination, yet many American political persons still hold on to the morals and teachings of religion above all else. I don't want my country to be run by people who get their moral guidance from a 2000 year old book with a talking snake and men who rise from the dead; I want a country run by people who question things and search for answers by critical and logical thinking.
  • THANK YOU for getting this "discussion" out in the public eye. Growing up in a cultlike John-Birch Mormon home in the 50's was continually frustrating, blinding, confusing and stifling inside. When I actually had my first "drink" at 22 with friends, and realized my "brain" could think things other than what I was "told to think", I was liberated.... and it was the best thing that ever happened to me! I'm sure there are hundreds who will read this, and be given hope............. THANKS.

How would your blog do if you were living in the middle east and Allah was the one you were trashing, just wondering? I think you are doing a great job of expressing your beliefs, just the fact that you can affirms that that free will and choice are the only thing we can claim.
  • I think this site is freakin' awesome!! Satirical and surreal about controversial issues!!
    I'm in love!!

    God's Word (NASB)
    Romans 1:
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been CLEARLY SEEN, being UNDERSTOOD through what has been made, so that they are WITHOUT EXCUSE.
21 For even though they KNEW God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

I've always loved this circular logic. "The Bible true because it says it's true." The movie Fargo starts off with "This is a true story", too, ya know.
  • patrickfernald
I love people who quote the bible, they're so original.
You can really tell how objective they are to the world around them "The sky is blue, I don't know why, don't feed me some bullshit about atmosphere, I don't want knowledge, I just know it's blue"

I'm jealous of faith, for it takes true ignorance to embrace it, and true arrogance to share it

I am thoroughly enjoying this blog. I have finally embraced what I have felt and known since I was a teenager but because of fear of persecution, I followed the crowd. I must admit that it is so liberating to be open about what I know is real and true.
  • alex
how do you know that your opinion about religion is real and true? or do you just mean true for you?
  • Chris Holmes
I would ask the same of the faithful, except the answer would be subjective.
