Dec17 Google is Biased! (pic)

I saw this image on Reddit yesterday.zVWIe

After seeing it, I was curious as to wether or not it was true. So I pulled up Google.com and typed in christianity is and sure enough all of those suggestions came up. Then I tried islam is and was presented with nothing. Don’t believe me? Go try it yourself. I highly doubt this is Google purposefully doing this, but it is kind of strange that this happens. What do you think?

Google is very biased, they blocked moveon.org during the election to protect Obama's image. Maybe not all of google, but whoever controls the search programs or his/her boss.
  • Thanks, you are probably right about the bias. I just typed christianity into search and came up with a more suggestion list. Maybe you hit home. Of course, everything is biased, why woudn't a search engine be too. Its run by people. Mostly on the left.
  • godlessblogger
Yea but other search engines don't do this. And a search engine SHOULD
    be impartial.
  • I agree. They should be impartial, But just like the media, things get slanted. They should respect all religions equally and all political parties.
  • godlessblogger
That is quite true. With the media the truth usually lies somewhere in-
between the two sides. It is so bad I feel like I cannot trust getting
information from only one outlet. To be sure I have to check at least
    two different sources.
  • I come from a Christian background, and my religion says love one another as I have loved you. So that is what I do. I have a mixed religion extended family so I learned to respect all religions.
  • godlessblogger
I respect religion in a way. I'm not afraid to confront it though.
People should atleast be able to explain what they believe and why. If
after discussion they still stick to their guns, I don't judge them
for it. If anything religion is a personal choice and as long as your
church isn't fucking with my quality of life, go for it.
  • I know, I flip back and forth between cnn and fox, so I can hear both sides of the story. With politics, I actually feel bad for any president. I think the media vilifies them too much.
  • godlessblogger
That's what I do as well!
  • Strange that bing and yahoo seem to have suggested searches.
  • Don’t believe me? Go try it yourself.

Yeah -- but that's not the half of it. Try typing in each of the the "Islam is ..." searches in parallel with the "Christianity is ..." searches and see how many matches you get. The only two "Islam is ..." searches with fewer matches than their Christian counterparts are "Islam is a cult" and "Islam is dying." There are even more matches for "Islam is Jewish" than "Christianity is Jewish". For real, try it.

Also see if there are any matches for the following:

    "Judaism is ..."
    "Hinduism is ..."
    "Buddhism is ..."
    "Taoism is ..."
    "Ba'hai is ..."

Or try anything else you can think of. Try, for instance:

    "Jedi is ..."

You get "Jedi is a religion" and "Jedi is an official religion" FFS!

I highly doubt this is Google purposefully doing this

Why? Google's unofficial catchphrase is "Don't be evil", but that's a very different statement from "Don't be IP-blocked in the Middle East."
