Nov30 Thanks For Keeping It Secular (Mostly)

I was quite proud when I read Obama’s Thanksgiving Proclamation. As usual Obama showed his secular side, only mentioning God once. It is important to note that the one time God was mentioned, it was inside a quote from George Washington. This is quite different from some of our past presidents, then again Obama is a unique guy. He addressed the nation as one of nonbelievers as well. I am pretty sure this is one of a few, if not the only, Thanksgiving addresses where God was not worked into it. He really captures what I like about Thanksgiving:

I encourage all the people of the United States to come together, whether in our homes, places of worship, community centers, or any place where family, friends and neighbors may gather, with gratitude for all we have received in the past year, to express appreciation to those whose lives enrich our own and to share our bounty with others

Although I’m sure some Conservatives out there will take it as Obama spreading his “spread the wealth”propoganda. This was truly a well crafted address to the nation. Why shouldn’t we focus on things that bring us together, rather than the things that drive us apart?

Oh, this probably explains why he's sending even more troops to Afghanistan. Very likely someone attacked him for being one of those godless, effeminate, hippy-loving liberals. The answer? More war!

    Thank you.

Just because something doesn't have god in it doesn't make it "godless." If you want to thank god on thanksgiving, be my guest, but if I don't believe in a god, don't exclude me.

This proclamation should be equally inspiring to theists and atheists alike.

Exactly. A good leader shouldn't let his personal faith get in the
way. Obama has shown he can be quote secular, which is quite ideal for
all of us. Sadly many theists assume that secularism is disguised
atheism. We can't remove "In God We Trust" from money because it's
offensive. Bullshit! It offends me! If we just totally removed it,
that would be more fair. Our government should never endorse any form
of religion. Look at the damn Establishment Clause people.
