Nov17 There Is No Conspiracy

I am not talking about the WTC or all those other conspiracy nutters this time, I am talking about the evil Atheist Conspiracy.

It may be shocking to many theists, but there is no plan for hostile takeover. As an atheist, I do not want to destroy all that you have and plummet the world into chaos. If anything, I want the world to be more cohesive. Destruction and mass murder don’t fit into my vision of a perfect world. Although some might interpret this as a step toward utopia with the beginning of Tribulation. Just because somebody is not religious does NOT mean they lack morals.

“If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.” -Albert Einstein

My motivations for altruism and just being a good person in general are not based on a hope for reward. I simply wish to see fellow humans enjoying the only life they have to the fullest. I don’t need any sort of divine creature to coerce me into kindness. You CAN throw out your Bible and not throw away morals. Millions of people are able to live in harmony without God each and everyday.

  • This is great, and a point well worth making! I think the problem lies in the fact that our standpoint as atheists undermines the very fabric of a theist's life, and by taking away their perceived "foundation" we would plunge *their* world into chaos. This is a point I try and convey with my approach to atheism, and something I do not take lightly.

It's not good enough to just say "You are wrong!" and leave it at that. The approach must be a lot more gentle, as taking away someone's "Raison d'ĂȘtre" leaves them with nothing, even if it only perceived.

Having said that, perception is all we have to make sense of the world. and if a person is brought up believing that their lives are controlled by other-worldy beings, then they will perceive the influence of these beings in everything they see.

Exactly. How can you expect anybody to listen if you only proclaim "WRONG!". Theists try it all the time with no luck. Religious faith doesn't deserve all the respect it gets, but you should still have some. When deconstructing what somebody has always held true, you must utilize finesse. Perception could be described by a quote I read "If you were taught that elves caused the rain all your life, each time it rains you will see proof of elves". I might have mixed that up, but that was pretty much the context of it.
