I recently got a copy of Oh My God the movie. It is a film based on what people think about God. Director Peter Rodger made a film that is not about God, but is about what people think God is. He goes around the world asking the question “What is God?”. He even asks a few atheists what they think. Really though, he asks people from ALL walks of life. The people interviewed span from Hugh Jackman and Ringo Starr to children in poor countries. Overall the purpose is not to convert people. The purpose would be to make people open their eyes. It gave me a better understanding of what people think and I think it is going to make waves when it hits theaters. I even talked with the director about the film this afternoon. His belief is that God is a word which describes the concept of humanity. The thing that holds us all together and allows us to speak. Peter Rodger does not think God is an old man with a beard who created us all
We are primitive organisms on a big rock in a scary vacuum, driven by fear and desperately trying to find something to hold onto. What I believe to be true is that by holding onto something — whatever it is — we don’t have to push others away just because they don’t believe in the same things we do.
I personally thought it was a great film, and would recommend it to all of you out there. The message behind it is a good one and I think it needs to be more widely adopted. At the very least, I can say it made me think. And isn’t that what good art is supposed to do?
