Aug18 Why I Support The Idea Of An Atheist "Church"

I’m sure most atheists will agree a key difference between us and the religious would be the whole church concept. It doesn’t have to be that way. I have seen a church do good things for communities and for individuals. I obviously am not in favor of the whole God part of it. Why can’t we have a church of free discussion and reason? Hell we could even meet on Sundays just to put out a personal fuck you. I would imagine church just being a weekly discussion of progress in atheism and maybe a weekly discussion topic. I know that as atheists we aren’t bound ot have anything in common besides our disbelief in a higher power. So to solve that we could have debates and ask questions. I invision it as a bunch of fun and a good place to get together weekly. Plus if this church did dinners, and health screenings it would be some positive PR. I want to help people and most organizations which do so are religion-backed. A church of atheism could help people without indoctrinating. What do you guys think about something like that?

  • I'm iiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnn! I'm 500% in!!!
  • I disagree, and atheist 'church' would just give the whole atheism-is-a-religion crowd fodder.
