In this video we can clearly see what a level headed and intelligent man President Obama is. Now I have been a longtime supporter of him, but I think even John McCain fans and such can agree this is an intelligent speech. He recognizes fully even so called non-believers like myself have just as much a right as anybody for their opinions. He said if he wanted abortion banned because of his religion he would have to provide a substantial reason that applies to people from all walks of life. That’s why I support abortion, if you don’t want one don’t have one. Same as gay marriage. This must be what it feels like to have an intellectual run the country. Then again anythings an improvement over Bush….

You may have noticed I added some links to the blog. The only way they are there is because I truly like their site and what it has to offer. The main blogger on atheistblogger.com is Adrian Hayter. I have exchanged many emails and tweets with him and he truly is a nice fellow. His blog is updated nearly daily with new and exciting content. Religions always use just the stupidest excuses to attempt to change things around. I think the absolute number one thing that is attempted is the Holy Book. Followers always claim, well its written in the Bible, Koran, Book of Mormon ect. is that not enough proof for you? It sure isn’t for me. And usually the try to make you do the impossible, prove a negative. Yet, usually they only do that because they can’t really provide much substantiation behind their ridiculous claims. The burden of proof is always on the prosecution. The religious should atleast attempt to provide logical answers. I have heard  that radioactive dating is simple “modified by atheists” or “atheist propaganda”. I really wonder where these things stemmed from, I cannot find sources nor could they produce any. Or that fossils are simply a “test”. If these people really want us to take them seriously, they need to work on their debate prep and technique. Most of them sound as bad as Sarah Palin….

According to Truth-Saves.com, its pretty simple to test exactly how devout a Christian is:

Luke 6:30 “Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.”
According to Luke 6:30 a true Christian must give you anything you ask for from them. If you take something, they are not allowed to ask for it back.
Try asking a Christian for their car, money or shoes and see if they follow Jesus’ word. Try taking something insignificant and quote Luke 6:30 if they ask for it back.

This is just another example of a Bible quote nobody really follows.

Really though. If God truly did exist, and truly wanted all of us to be aware of his prescence it would be pretty easy. I mean he is omnipotent right? Yet, the biggest crime one can commit in reference to the Bible is denying the existence of the Holy Spirit. Its the one surefire ticket straight to Hell. All God would have to do is show up again like in the good old days, perform a few miracles and I would be satisfied. But unless that happens I’ll remain an atheist. Instead “His Word” is passed on by preachers and politicions with their own agendas.

How does the idea of a “Catholic child” not make you sick? The child isn’t being given a choice whatsoever in their religion. Their parents have already made a decision for them before they can even make a good decision. Young children are very impressionable and you scare the shit out of them with fear of eternal damnation, that will stick with them. Indoctrinating children is easily equivalent to brainwashing. I think its truly a form of child abuse.

So as you may have heard, Brad Pitt announced he is an atheist.

Brad Pitt was raised as a Southern Baptist, but apparently, his faith didn’t stick.

The 45-year-old actor doesn’t believe in God, he told Bild.com.

“No, no, no!,” he declared, when asked if he believes in a higher power, or if he was spiritual. “I’m probably 20 percent atheist and 80 percent agnostic. I don’t think anyone really knows. You’ll either find out or not when you get there, until then there’s no point thinking about it.”

Pitt doesn’t seem to have a problem with others believing though.

Today’s media seems to like telling us that the terrorists in Iraq and such are “extremists”. That most Muslims aren’t going to do something like that. Does their religion not teach that martyrdom is the quickest way to salvation? Many people also claim that it is a “peaceful religion”. Read these quotes for an idea of this:

4.89 : They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah’s way; but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper.

5.51: O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

That seems very unpleaseant to me. You just never seem to hear about that. People say that the literal translation of the word Islam means peace in Arabic. That may be true but it isn’t reflected.

I’m sure by now you have heard about the plan to engrave In God We Trust and the Pledge into the Capital Visitor Center. I mean what depression? Lets spend $150,000 on this engraving. And it truly would have been difficult to find a more government facility to do this on. Here is where the Freedom From Religious Foundation steps in. They have filed a lawsuit which is basically summed up here:

The Foundation Complaint said the Congressional appropriations “will give actual and apparent government endorsement and advancement of religion,” while excluding nonreligious Americans.

“‘In God We Trust’ excludes and treats as outsiders the millions of adult Americans, including as many as 15% of all adults, who are not religious, i.e., atheists, agnostics, skeptics and freethinkers, none of whom possesses a belief in a god; the mandated language diminishes nonbelievers by making god-belief synonymous with citizenship.”

Today, via AIM, I had a conversation with a very strong minded Christian. I was curious as to what exactly she believed so we had a discussion about evolution, natural selection, Horus and the like. I feel the need to post some of the more memorable responses. The best one:

I asked many times what was wrong with evolution or natural selection or something like that. Every time the response was, I don’t believe in it or don’t know.
